Wemos D1 Mini Snap-Fit Case — ESPHome LED Indicator

Overview

Sometimes you just need a single LED to indicate something. This slim snap-fit case houses a Wemos D1 Mini (ESP8266) and, combined with ESPHome and Home Assistant (or any MQTT broker), makes it easy to surface any signal as a visible indicator. The clip variant is designed to hang on the top edge of a laptop display.

Variants

Three STL configurations are provided:

1. Basic case — houses the ESP8266 with access to the USB port for power and the side button
2. LED case — adds two holes for an external LED
3. Clip case — includes both LED holes and a 6.5mm snap clip for quick mounting and removal (e.g. top of a laptop lid)

Customizing

A Fusion 360 source file is included. It contains an embedded Wemos D1 Mini component modeled for the ESP32, with the button projected to the opposite side for the ESP8266 — this can be changed easily. To simplify the design, delete the LED or Clip history groups as needed.
